Curriculum Intent
Here at Swinton Fitzwilliam we follow Development Matters and the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework. We have a huge focus on Personal, Social and Emotional Development and embed this daily through the children's learning and in the environment we provide. The EYFS environment at Swinton Fitzwilliam is exciting and nurturing. It also promotes independence and challenge in a setting where the children feel secure and able to reach their potential. We provide experiences for children to deepen their learning through exciting opportunities, which in turn, consolidates and deepens their knowledge. We work in partnership with parents and encourage life long learners who are happy in school.
Curriculum Implementation
We have a curriculum that is child-centered and that is based upon wow experiences and topics which engage and stimulate the children. We encourage active learning to ensure the children are motivated and interested. We take time to get to know children’s interests and their likes to support learning, resulting in a personalised, flexible curriculum. Our classroom environment offers enhancements linked to themes. We use our local environment and educational visits to create a relevant and unique curriculum for the children at Swinton Fitzwilliam Primary.
We plan our curriculum to ensure a broad and balanced educational experience within an exciting environment that offers challenge. It is essential that children have the opportunity to embed and build upon their knowledge and skills in the continuous provision and that this is entrenched with the characteristics of effective learning. Children are given opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills on a daily basis. Continuous provision practice and principles begin in EYFS and support children to develop key life skills such as independence, innovation, creativity, enquiry, analysis and problem solving. During the school day, children have an opportunity to work independently, work collaboratively with their peers and with adults within the setting.
